Adult ADHD support · Ireland
Adult ADHD support in Ireland: a clear map.
Adult ADHD support in Ireland is real, but fragmented. This page lays out who does what — public, private, peer-led and digital — so you can pick the right next step instead of falling through the gaps.
The five pillars of adult ADHD support in Ireland
1. Your GP
The single most important step. Your GP is the gateway to public mental health services and the HSE Adult ADHD National Clinical Programme. They can also write referrals to private clinics. Bring a brief written history of your patterns since childhood — it makes the conversation tighter.
2. HSE adult ADHD services
The HSE Adult ADHD National Clinical Programme is rolling out across Community Healthcare Organisations. Access is uneven: some regions have dedicated adult ADHD teams, others route through general adult mental health services. GP referral required.
3. ADHD Ireland
The national ADHD charity. Peer support groups (in person and online), an information line, training, family supports and trustworthy plain-English content. Visit adhdireland.ie.
4. Private assessment & treatment
A growing network of private psychiatrists and psychologists in Ireland and the UK offer adult ADHD assessment and ongoing care. Faster, but costs €600–€1,500+ for assessment plus ongoing review fees and prescription costs. See our assessment overview.
5. Coaching, skills & daily tools (Steady)
The day-to-day layer most adults eventually need: structure, planning, focus, sleep, follow-through, emotional regulation. Non-diagnostic. Designed to fit alongside everything above.
When to seek medical help, not coaching
Coaching is the right layer for most week-to-week struggles. It's not the right layer for thoughts of self-harm, mania, severe insomnia, abuse, substance crisis or a sudden change in mental state. If you're there, please contact your GP, HSE YourMentalHealth (1800 111 888), Samaritans (116 123), Pieta House (1800 247 247), or in an emergency 112/999. More on when to seek medical help.
